Isi artikelAcrylic acid is used as a precursor for a wide variety of chemicals in the polymers and textile industries. This article covers the used of acrylic acid, the current commercial manufacturing process of acrylic acid, as well as the production and demand of acrylic acid are included as background information. Topics covered included the current catalyst process and technology. The current manufacturing process of acrylic acid makes use propylene as feedstock and a 2 - step process which acrolein as the intermediate. The typical temperatyre range of the first step (propylene to acrolein) is 325 - 340 celcius degree, and the seconf step (acrolein to acrylic acid) is 210 - 255 celcius degree. There are tougher challengs for the revolutionary one - step propane oxidation to acrylic acid instead of two - step propylene oxidation to acrylic acid. This article also describes the selective oxidation of propane to acrylic acid over multi metal oxide catalyst as alternative process of production of acrylic acid instead of two stages process. The gas feed of propane / oxygen / nitrogen / steam of 1 / 2/ 18 / 9 has been flowed to the reactor that contins the catalyst of 0,5 ml at 400 celcius degree. The gas steam was analyzed by on - line gas chromatographers.
