Isi artikelThis research is entitled “Three Argument Verb in Japanese (VBTBJ) and Balinese (VBTBB)”. It is aimed at analyzing primary grammatical relations consisting of ‘subject’, ‘direct object’, and ‘indirect object’. The data in this research is clauses with three argument verb that was obtained from library research and researcher intuition as native Balinese speaker. The theory applied in analyzing the clause of three argument verb is the theory of relational grammar (Blake, 1990). In VBTBJ, there is morphological and non-morphological process in the clause. The morphological process in Japanese is te-sashiageru, te-ageru, te-yaru, te-kudasaru, te-kureru, te-itadaku, te-morau, -rareru, -seru/- saseru, -serareru/sareru, -saserareru. The morphological process in VBTBJ does not influence the number of argument bounded by the verb. Direct object with meaning of giving in VBTBJ is marked by particle o. Meanwhile indirect object in VBTBJ that has meaning of giving is marked by partikel ni. Direct object of causative in VBTBJ is marked by particle o when the basic verb is intransitive. Indirect object of causative in VBTBJ is marked by particle ni when the basic verb is transitive. Noncore argument has no position before the particle of o in VBTBJ. The sequence of SOP can be changed into OSP. It is only the indirect object can have the position of subject in the process of revaluation. The process of three argument verb in Balinese is through the suffix –ang, -in, -a, and prefix –ka. Words that can be combined with suffix –ang in Balinese three argument verb are basic verbs, nominal, adjective, and pre categorical morpheme (MP). Non-core argument in VBTBB does not have position after verb; it does not have position between direct and indirect objects. The pattern of sequence SPO in VBTBB can be changed into POS and PSO.
