Isi artikelAs a commonly known language, Indonesian segmental inventory is already clear. Experimental research is relatively new yet useful to perform further research on Indonesian phonology and phonetics to provide necessary evidence. Sound pattern study by means of experimentation is accordingly selected as the framework of this research. Since sound pattern of one language consists of many subparts, here Indonesian plosive sound pattern is focused. Therefore, quantitative methodology is adopted for the objective of research. Indonesian words with plosives at beginning of second syllable and first syllable are repectively designed as stimuli for recording. Then Praat is applied to measure and GAP and VOT , then collect data of them. The result of this research shows that Indonesian plosive sound pattern form two clear clusters. Voiceless plosives have longer gap duration than voiced plosives. Front plosives in the vocal cavity have longer gap than plosives but shorter VOT length. This experimental research has performed acoustic phonetic analysis and is going to provide basis for further researches such as auditory phonetics experimental research, phonological contrast and so on. What is more, it visualizes abstract concepts and helps better understand Indonesian sound pattern.
