Isi artikel
Four experiments were perlormed contrasting the effects of Centrality and story category membership on the recall and judged importance of story content. The Centrality of story content was identified by an analysis focusing on the causal, purposeful, and componential relations connecting story events and states. Recall and judged importance of story content was greatest for: (I) Internal Response and Reaction statements when they were made Central rather than Noncentral; (2) Central as compared to Noncentral content contained within each episodic story category; (3) story categories containing the highest proportion of Central content; and (4) Central Content Contained within Settings, Initiating Events, and Consequences. The results are discussed in terms of how the present analysis and story grammars provide complementary ways to describe story structure.
