A study on the red-macroalgae in the coastal marine of Padang had been done by transect method from January to March 1996. The samples were taken from jive stations in the intertidal zones of th..e water by using quadrad methods (50 x 50 cm2). Nine species of red algae were found, within six genera ie. Acanthophora, Amphiroa, Gelidium, Galaxaura, Gracillaria and Hypnea. Three species of them were have wide distribution and more abundant in the water, they were Amphiroa fragilissima, Geldium rigidum and Gracillaria sp1 .
