Isi artikelThe social status of the elderly in developing ,countries is generally thought to be relatively high. Unfortunately, the limited research on this topic has tended to focus almost exclusively on the effects of modernization on elderly well-being. In general, work on this subject has posited a negative relationship between the two. We argue that other factors are equally or more important In determining the social status of seniors in the Philippines. We examine how control over resources, extent of social interaction with children, gender, health, age, employment status, and marital status might influence the decision making power of the seniors in that country.
