Cross-cultural insights can be obtained when standardized tests are translated. Due to that reason, we therefore further analyzed the available Indonesian translations of two "Big Five" Personality tests: the revised NEO Personality Inventory (Costa & McCrae, 1992) and the OMNI-Berkeley Personality Profile (Harary, 1991) in the present study. About 385 Indonesian college students were employed as a samples at two universities in Jakarta. The results showed that 2 of 5 factors, which called Neuroticism and Conscientiousness in Indonesian college students were relatively similiar to the American one after varimax-rotation. In contrast, some quite distinct results as shown in the other 3 factors: Extraversion, Agreeableness, and particularly Openness were found when comparing both Indonesian an American college students. Possible explanation for these differences will be the focus of our further discussion in this study. |
