"Western or cowboy" stories are one of the most popular works, especially for americans. According to "The house of popular culture" table written by jack nashbar and kevin lause in their book popular culture : An introduction text (1992 : 21), popular works with its unique formula brings its readers to artifacts and also enlightens them to a basic ideology of a nation. Through louis a'mour masterpieces, especially his two novel titled the high grader and the empty land, he explains some artifact symbols that represent a very fundamental ideology in america : individualism. By analyzing those symbols, cowboys story reders would se the form of american individualism which has influenced ideas about masculinity, self reliance, success and justice.
