Isi artikel
This paper addresses a problem of lexical choice that arises for ESL / EFL learners in the writing of research papers, critiques, interview reports, or any other sort of discourse that requires source attribution. The problem falls naturally into two parts. One part concerns the general lack of linguistic resources typically available ( for various reasons ) to ESL / EFL learners at the high intermadiate to advanced level---an issues of variety. The other concerns the misuse of whatever resources are available---an issues of accuracy. In this paper i hope to sketch a clear conceptual framework for teaching the semantics of attribution expressions at a convenient point in any writing classroom in which reported speech plays a key role.
