The narcotic and other dangerous substance abuses can rise the sociomedical problems such as social restlessness or criminal activities. In order to know the social restlessness or criminal activities caused by narcotic and other dangerous substance abuses, the research had been done on 9 8 respondents by using explanatory survey method and laboratory examination to monitor the drug level in the urine containing alcohol, amphetamine, barbiturate, benzodiazepine, cannabis, and opiate. There were 35 persons out of 98 respondents having positive urine test. The research had been done in eight general hospitals and in one social rehabilitation centre institution for narcotic abusers in West Java. Before becoming abuser, the user generally began with habit of smoking and drinking (79%), drinking (10%), and smoking (9%). Furthermore among 98 respondents there were 21 cases involved in social restlessness or criminal activities, and only 10 cases (48%) were directly arrested by the police, and the rest. (52%) were due to other penal cases e.g: stealing, fighting, chopping, and drinking. The ninety eight narcotic and other dangerous substance abusers in the distribution of age groups by Chi-square test showed a highly significant difference between abusers in the teen-age group (10-19 years old) and the other groups of age (p < 0.001), and it also showed that the highest percentage of drug abusers was teen-age group (51%). The test given to 35 respondents with the positive urine test showed a significant (p < 0.10) aid it also showed that the highest percentage of drug abusers was teen-age group (43%). On the other hand, the distribution of age groups which caused social restlessness or criminal activities as the impact on the social environment, the Chi-square test did not show significance. The result of the research on the effect of narcotic and other dangerous substance abuses on social environment had shown the positive correlation, and the contingency coefficient (C) = 0.20. The conclusion of the research proved that the narcotic and other dangerous substance abuses were some of medical problems having impact on the social environment. Related to this problem, this research could be called development research of the social pharmacology, which was expected to be useful and could be used as a model, in handling the narcotic and other dangerous substance problems. |
