Isi artikel
Indonesian as a unifying language is used as a vehicle for Indonesian culture. In the Indonesian republic the language has several functions such as language of the nation, language of education, language of national communication, language of cultural building, and language of mass media. With these functions, the language is expected to bridge the people having their different backgrounds. Indonesian language can ease the communication between different ethnics groups. It, therefore, functions as a "glue" for the developing elements. Therefore, Indonesian has a very significant role in unifying the Indonesian nation. Factors which contribute to this unification process will also be dealt with.
