This article discusses the ideology of the news writers of the English daily newspaper The Jakarta Post in telling criminal stories involving women as the victims. A naming analysis was performed on the collected data followed by an analysis of transitivity revealing the exploitation of Material Processes in the texts. The results of the analysis show that ideologically in some reports the news writers tend to side with the women as the victims of the crimes. Furthermore, they try to get the readers' sympathy for those women. In some other reports, the writers are neutral, not siding with either the victims or the criminals. Still in others, the news writers have a tendency to side with the victims without getting sympathy ITom the readers; they also tend to position the women, as the victims of the crimes, as those who took parts for the occurrence of the crimes.
