The major non-communicable diseases, i.e : ishemic heart and cerebrovascular disease including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic lower respiratory disease and neoplasm, cover 5 percent of the sample populaton, consisting of ischemic heart and cerebrovascular diseases 0.1% diabetes mellitus 0.7%, chronic lower respiratory diseases 3.6% and tumors 0.6%. High blood pressure is the most prevalent risk factor related to non-communicable diseases in the national level. The prevalence of high blood pressure increases with age, as they are part of aging process. The prevalence is slightly higher among females than males. It tends to increase as women get divorced, and decline among higher educational level. The prevalence of hypertension is slightly higher in the urban than in the rural areas. Among three risk behaviors of non-communicable diseases (smoking, alcohol and inactivity), the prevalence of hypertension in more than 20 years duration is significantly higher between active and ex-smokers compared to non-smokers.
