Eastman (1983) states that the use of language is a reflection of the speakers's attitude. The present paper is an attempt to show how the Javanese in Sitiung adjust themselves linguistically to the Indonesian and Minangkabau languages surrounding them. From the data analyzed it was found that the Javanese in Sitiung have a positive attitude toward both Indonesian and Minangkabau languages although at the same time they also lose the opportunity to maintain the Javanese language among their younger generation especially with regards to the honorific system prevalent in the language.
