Isi artikel
There are three major roles of language to develop a nation: to develop intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, and independence. These roles are accomplished through the use of structural and non-structural aspects of language. Individual and societal mastery of the Indonesian language is not yet maximal so that these roles have not been well-glayed. Language education and linguistic develop ment in the 20 century tended to emphasize only on intelectual intelligence. In the 21 st century, both intellectual and emotional iI1telligence must be developed and in a proportional way. Through the Indonesian language, mass media plays a great and strategic role in the development of these two types of intelligence.
