A structural model of women's work conditions, women's stress, and marital adjustment was evaluated using path analysis. The sample consisted of 86 two-earner couples with adolescents. Questionnaires were completed by the wives and husbands. Results indicated support for a spillover model in which women's work stress and global stress mediated a link between their work conditions and their perceptions of marital adjustment. There was no support for a crossover model in which women's work stress and global stress were hypothesized to mediate a link between their work conditions and their husbands' perceptions of marital adjustment. Implications for the study of work-family relations were discussed.
