Isi artikelOne of the emerging social events attracting public attention is the increasing number of Chinese Workers in Indonesia. The event triggers pro- and contra-discourses as recently reported in media. There are two opposing discourses regarding the social event of the Chinese workers’s influx, those are the government’s discourse and the opposition’s discourse. Through the discourses, each articulates strategies to achieve its objective. As a result, the discourses have a potential to articulate social wrongs such as domination, manipulation, and injustice. In this study, I am going to analyze the texts produced by the two opposing parties. Using a critical discourse analysis approach, I will answer how the social agents of each party articulate social wrongs through the discourse. To answer the research problem, I will carry out four stages implementing the methodology in CDA, those are focusing the social wrong, identifying obstacles to addressing the social wrong, considering whether the social order needs the social wrong, and identifying the possible ways past the obstacles. Data are utterances concerning the influx of the Chinese Workers produced by the social agents representing each party that are directly quoted by the printed media. The data are analyzed in linguistic level (from lexicon to grammar) and interdiscursive level (genres, discourses, and styles). The result of text analysis will be related with the analysis of other social elements using a transdisciplinary approach.
