Isi artikelStudent-centred learning is very important in ensuring the effectiveness of teaching and learning, especially in 21st century teaching. Student-centred learning is a broad teaching approach that encompasses replacing lectures with active learning, integrating self-paced learning program and cooperative group situation, ultimately holding the students to be responsible for his or her own advances in education. A student-centred approach encourages students to be more responsible for their learning and is a process that relies heavily on professional confidence to "let-go" of traditional teaching responsibilities. However, many studies show that there are still many educators who practice traditional methods of teaching which is “teacher-centered” and this causes students to lose their focus during teaching sessions. Therefore, this study aimed to increase focus, concentration and interest of students towards lecturers’ teaching sessions using andragogy, which is one of the strategies in implementing student-centred learning. The study was conducted because there are a number of students who lose focus and not interested in teaching and learning. The study involved three students from semester two Preparatory Program Bachelor of Education of major islamic study who have and taking courses of Malay languages Contextual at Institute of Teacher Education, Darulaman Campus, Jitra, Kedah. Data was collected through document analysis, observation and interviews. The results of the study and the intervention was carried out, it was found that all students involved have given focus and concentration and showed an interest in teaching and learning session by the lecturer. These results show that students were excited and more eager to follow the teaching and learning session. Andragogy method has managed to increase motivation, enthusiasm and focus for students to learn. In conclusion, this method has managed to increase focus, concentration and interest of students towards the teaching and learning session. This study provides an effective teaching and learning strategies that can be implemented in the classroom to improve student centred learning.
