At 21 century, various teaching methods and techniques are used to ensure that students get education appropriate to their level of thinking. Various forms of materials, activities and teaching techniques are also introduced. One of the popular now is the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language) in school. Information and communication technology is a form of teaching aids that are increasingly popular in schools and higher institutions of learning. The needs of using ICT in teaching Malay Language in the 21st century is important to ensure students have more fun and affective learning environment. This research aims to know the perception of Malay Language teachers in schools, against the use of ICT in Malay Language teaching and learning in the twenty first century. This is a field study using the survey as a means of data collection. Questionnaires were distributed to respondents to obtain information relating to the use of ICT in Malay Language (BM) teaching and learning. The analysis of quantitative data is done through the use of frequency alone, while explanation of data were carried out descriptively. Respondents made up of 50 Malay Language teachers in primary and secondary schools who attended professional improvement courses for Malay Language teachers under the Memartabat Bahasa Melayu(MBM) program. Analysis of the findings is based on the matters set out in the questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of two parts; the first part relating to respondent's personal background and the second part contains information concerning the respondent's perception of five related aspects of the use of ICT in teaching Malay Language teaching. Five aspects asked in the questionnaire are the use of ICT and mastering of BM, ICT and the BM curriculum content, the needs to attend ICT courses, affective factors in the use of ICT in teaching, and the professionalism of BM teachers in the use of ICT. The findings of this study show that, all respondents have given positive response against the use of ICT in teaching BM. Most of the respondents agree that the use of ICT in teaching BM was seen as an effort to provide appropriate impact on helping students mastering the language skills as well as a teaching aid that is latest in nature. Summary of the study explained that the use of ICT is important as one of the resources for teaching and learning BM in school in the twenty first century. Researchers also hope that an action research be carried out so that the effectiveness of ICT use can be measured.
