Isi artikel
This article analyzes the feminist construction by comparing two news in Ms. Magazine, published by Feminist Majority Foundation, and New York Times. The news are analyzed by using Lazar’s Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (2005) and Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (1989). Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) aims to reveal the construction of gender ideology in news focusing on linguistics units, and the power and social relation in creating the woman’s position. This article encompasses quantitative and qualitative, following three stages of critical linguistics proposed by Fairclough; description, interpretation, and explanation, supported by feminist analysis through Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (FCDA). FCDA helped to communicate the patriarchal order and subordination of woman which can be seen from positioning women and men differently. The result describes the difference of language use between New York Times and Ms. Magazine, the characteristics of feminist language, and the woman’s position in news considered as the portrait of society. It strengthens the belief that ideology plays a major role in constructing a language and perspective.
