Isi artikelThis paper would like to describe and analyze most striking word pronunciation errors which occur repeatedly in my surroundings: in classes of English, in seminars, oral exams, etc. unlike the previous research which was limited to only one class of English and based on the observation done by one teacher only. The theories applied in this paper to describe and analyze the data would be those of pronunciation, mistakes and errors, error analysis, “interlanguage”, “approximative systems”, “idiosyncratic dialects”, and “transitional competence”, as well as the factors affecting it. The subjects of the study were students of the English department of Atma Jaya Catholic University and other people using oral English in seminars, exams, or other events my colleagues and I attended. The data would be collected from lecturers’ observation during those events through a questionnaire I design to list the most striking word pronunciation errors. The analysis would be based on the theory of inter-language, second language acquisition, and error analysis. The findings of this research (the English words pronounced incorrectly and the possible strategies used to correct the mistakes) would be significant for both students who still learn English, the English (pronunciation) teachers as well as for other people using English orally in public events.
