This article is a summary of a study conducted to help students improve their translation products into the reader friendly and effective texts by introducing them stylistic analysis. With the analysis, the students were guided to finding out the unique characteristics of texts of different genres, particularly of the linguistic choices. The analysis to the source text and the target text helps in comparing and translating them further. For the purpose, action research was adopted to work progressively with 22 English department students taking translation class at STKIP Abdi Pendidikan Payakumbuh. The students were mostly assigned to certain activities of texts comparison leading to similarities and differences found in English texts and their Indonesian versions, or vice versa. The comparisons were aimed to increase their awareness, both in the discourse and linguistic choices. This preliminary study of stylistic analysis to translation has helped the students be more active, by doing several searchings and readings, and be aware of the more possible linguistic choices suited the target text and its audience.
