Isi artikel
This is a literary review which is aimed at revisiting the premises postulated by the scholars regarding communicative competence in EFL, especially emergence of globalization, infomatization, and the awareness of cultural diversity. Without denying the importance of language components postulated by the scholars, it is also urgent for EFL teachers to understand that in this era, the possible exposures experienced by the learners will never be solely L1 culture due to their interconnectedness among each other in the global world. Besides the “informatization era” has also led to a possibly much simpler communication since these communication practices will be mostly conducted through social media, tweeter, internet, or other cyber links, instead of face to face contact, thus sparing the communicators from the ordeal of learning a relatively complex sociocultural element required by the traditionalists. Last but not least, the communicative language teaching tenets set by linguists should be reviewed and further be materialized in the form of much simpler communication practices in language teaching. This is because too much complicated teaching materials will definitely prevent the learners to learn foreign or second language which is in fact very useful for them to create global link around the world.
