Isi artikelThe research was classroom action research which intended to find out the effective ways in teaching oral skill by using dictogloss at SMA 4 Palopo. Dictogloss is a language teaching technique that is usually used in teaching grammatical structures. However, in this research, the researcher tried to apply it in oral skill. As the activities emphasized on dictation, this technique is useful way of presenting new factual information and encourage students to listen key points. Besides, it also support students to be more confident and participate actively within the groups because it also build cooperation among others. To maximize this technique, it was completed by using pictures as media of learning. In doing so, we described the topic (choose ‘thing’) by dictating the description of the picture. Then, the student drew the picture based on the teacher’s description. Last activities, every group presented the picture as the result of their understanding from dictation. Other group might ask questions related to the picture to emerge interaction among groups and build speaking activities. It was taken 24 students from the tenth years’ students at SMAN 4 Palopo as the object of the research. This condition facilitated the teacher (the researcher) to observe their activities and the progress they made during the learning process. The research was conducted in 6 cycles in which in every cycles it was involved planning, action, observation and reflection. To support the success of this technique, it was needed to evaluate the progress by getting their scores in oral skill. Certainly it evaluated components of oral skills such as accuracy, fluency and comprehensibility. Observation completed the data related to the students’ response and participation toward the activities. The result of the research found the appropriate ways in teaching oral skill by using dictogloss, such as; (a) Organizing the class by arranging the students seat position and divided them into small groups, (b) Preparing interesting materials and describing them in detail in order that students can draw the correct pictures, (c) Giving opportunities for all students to speak up by presenting and also responding pictures without seeing their notes ( d) Guiding students more intensively when they faced difficulties in speaking so they can improve their selves day by day. Finally, (e) Do not forget to appreciate or even give reward for whom has made progress.
