Isi artikelThe use of grammar-translation method, despite being considered as a baseless teaching method, is actually beneficial in supporting the students’ cognitive ability as well as improving the four skills targeted in every learning process. Besides, the use of grammar in a simple communication practice during the class can possibly permit the young learners to contrast between their L1 and the newly learned language (L2), thus resulting in better comprehension. The typical children communication which is relatively short and simple can possibly benefit from translation teaching technique enabling them to communicate in simple, accurate yet meaningful. If this teaching process is continuously applied, the students might have a much better bilingual ability, instead of being monolingual (subtractive bilingual). Last but not least, the worrying tendency of language loss or language shift due to the premature exposure of foreign language can also be anticipated.
