At present, narrative translation has become a common thing. In doing narrative translation, not only the linguistic meaning of the source text is being transferred to target text but also the culture. Therefore, a translator must be familiar with the culture, custom and social setting of the source and target language speakers. This study aim to investigate some problem which might occur in narrative translation, they are: 1) to find out the types of material culture terms applied in the translation of the narrative text, 2) to know the translation procedure applied in the translation of material culture terms, and 3) to find out whether the moral value of the source text has been delivered correctly and understand by the target readers. The data of this study was taken from a famous Balinese folktale entitled I Belog Kelangan and its translation version entitled I Belog Lost Something translated by I Gusti Made Sutjaja. The data ware collected through note taking method and then was classified based on the theory purposed by Newmark (1998) regarding the material culture and analyzed based on the theory purposed by Vinay and Darbalnet in Venuti (2000) regarding the procedure of translation. A set of questioner were also given to 3 informants of different culture to know the understanding of the moral implication. The findings of this study shows that they were three material cultures found and in translating those material culture the translator uses two kinds of translation procedure and most of the informants got the moral value which is similar to their own folktales such as The Five Travelling Journeyman (German), and The Emperor’s New Clothes (Danish).
