Ethnography room in National Museum displays the pictures of culture diversity of Indonesian ethnics from Sumatra to Papua. This study aims to find out the cultural categories of Indonesian cultural terms in the ethnography room texts of National Museum and the translation procedures used in translating the cultural terms into English. Descriptive qualitative method is applied in conducting this study. The data is analyzed by Newmark’s theory of cultural category and translation procedures (1988). Based on the result analysis, the cultural categories found are ecology (9%), material culture (32%), social culture (4,5%), custom (53%), and habit (1%). Translation procedures used in translating cultural terms consist of ten procedures: transference (38%), note (16%), descriptive equivalent (12,6%), transposition (9%), literal (6%), cultural equivalence (6%), couplet (5%), naturalisation (3%), functional equivalence (3%), and deletion (1%). It means that the translation procedures that most frequently applied is transference. It shows that the translator introduces the original culture terms more and emphasizes the Indonesian local color to make the English reader more familiar with the Indonesian ethnics culture. In conlusion, the English translation of cultural terms tends to be source language oriented.
