Trichy Community Policing is a unique exercise in public service – a model of ‘Policing with Community’, signifying ‘Quality in Service’ at work, where policing priorities and responses are geared to meet people’s needs and expectations. To tackle lawlessness, restore public confidence and improve people’s quality of life, community-oriented strategies were initiated, in partnership with the stakeholders. Empowerment and partnership brought about “Shared Responsibility” and a paradigm shift in policing. – making it more interactive, responsive and transparent. Remarkably, the model succeeded in 40% reduction in crimes, eradication of communal violence and improved mutual trust, forging a partnership towards ‘Better Quality of Life’.
