NTPC is one of the premier public sector enterprises in Power Sector in India with an installed capacity above 32,000 MW. There is strong link between extensive and sophisticated use of analytics and sustained high level of performance. Many top performing companies world wide have singled out analytics as critical to their competitive edge. In order to improve its performance and maintain its leadership position in power sector, NTPC has undertaken many quality initiatives; Benchmarking being one of the predominant. In NTPC benchmarking has been evolved over the time, initial beginning was with internal benchmarking and now it has reached up to global benchmarking. Units are continuously compared with each others and best practice of one unit is captured and implemented in rest of Units. The performances of NTPC units on various parameters are then compared with the global best units.
