The work in this paper focuses on application of six-sigma DMAIC (Define, Measurement, Analyze, Improve, and Control) approach for optimizing water wall soot blowing operation in NTPC Vindhyachal. The heart of the analysis lies in the design of experiment (DOE) technique used for soot-blowing optimization. Post this performance improvement project, soot blowing frequency has come down by more than 30% with appreciable savings both directly & indirectly.
