In today’s turbulent times with increasing globalization of the Indian economy, highly competitive environment just meeting customer requirements and complying with the international standard is insufficient. Some extra efforts have to be put in to enhance specific competencies of business and win over the competitors. VSP, even though saddled late to compete in the vibrant steel sector, held the reigns of TQM as the 1st strategic decision at the right moment, when TQM was gaining momentum all over the world. VSP’s export potential further expedited the implementation of ISO 9002 standard for Quality Management through which 75% of the requirements of TQM were met. The implementation of ISO 9002 standard & other proven TQM approaches, tools & techniques not only harnessed the growth potential and sustained profitable growth through technological upgradation, operational efficiency, expansion of facilities but also contributed to “the spectacular TURN AROUND” from a loss making company to a net profit making & debt free company.
