The software division of the Japanese Society for Quality Control is conducting a project to gather and classify explicit knowledge to improve quality in the Japanese software industry, which boasted exceptionally high quality in the 1980s. The committee has collected upwards of 60 specific examples of explicit knowledge and has examined the different expressions of this explicit knowledge to inculcate an awareness of the value of reading them for new readers. This paper describes the difficulties in earning a well-deserved evaluation from a wide range of readers in different circumstances and environments by merely presenting case studies.
