Isi artikelThis paper describe the work done on improvement in mean UTS of high carbon grade wire rod with carbon between 0.81-0.85, rolled in 8mm size in view of internal rejections and customer complaints as the wire rod UTS was on the lower side of the customer specification . Correlation study and regression analysis using statistica, of probable factors impacting the tensile strength were done. The important factors were carbon equivalent, Finish Rolling Temperature and chromium content. Design of Experiment (DOE) was carried out using %chromium and Finish Rolling Temperature as two factors with two levels each. Results of trials based on DOE showed increment in minimum UTS by 20 Mpa using a particular combination of chromium and Finish Rolling Temperature. The output was revalidated by taking another trial. The process based on the study was standardized.
