Technical educational institutions like other organizations have realized the significance of total quality management (TQM) and they have turned to TQM to help manage their business. Technical educational institutions have to focus on quality management methods in order to fulfill changing demands and service requirements of their outputs graduating from their organizations. The success of TQM in industries has motivated technical institutions to adopt principals of TQM. Realizing the potential of this philosophy, this paper tries to present the application of TQM in technical education institutions. The paper presents quality measurement aspects including product and service dimensions of quality related to higher education. The paper also presents benchmarking process for academic institution, Six Sigma methodology and critical elements of TQM in education.
