Many emerging Asian economies have developed great global competitiveness in the past two decades and play a crucial role in the world economy and the global manufacturing web. This paper studies these emerging economies systematically on four pillars of competitiveness. Based on the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF’s)classification of 11 emerging Asian economies namely;1) China, , 2) India, 3) Indonesia, 4) Korea, 5) Malaysia, 6) Pakistan, 7) Philippines, 8) Singapore, 9) Sri Lanka, 10) Taiwan and 11) Thailand, panel data analysis is conducted for these countries over the period 1996-2011. The results presented offer insights into which factors are most crucial to the competitiveness of a nation. We consider all these factors and suggest the policy implications for these nations. Important determinants of GDP, Outward FDI flows and Export of goods and services are identified. Rigorous analysis is conducted to justify the results and policy implications are presented. In conclusion, enhancing the global competitiveness of emerging Asian economies would require countries to focus on the right factors, policy coordination and implementation of economic and institutional reforms.
