Isi artikel
Background: High levels of blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride tend to increase the incidence of several diseases. This study aimed to prove the effects of combined infusion of sambiloto, sala, kayu manis, and temulawak on decreasing blood levels of glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Method: The rats were divided into 3 groups (control, treatment, and metformin as positive control). The study was conducted at the animal laboratory of MPTMRDC, Central Java, on June to September 2014. Hyperglycemia was induced by administering high fructose diet (HFD), a mixture of fructose (36%), egg yolk (20%), and standard pellets (44%) in 0.36 g/200 g Body Weight (BW) for 70 days. The combined infusion was given orally to the hyperglycemic rats for 7 consecutive days. The parameters were blood levels of glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides. The pancreas was examined histopathologically at the end of the study. Results: HFD for 70 days led to significant increase in glucose (p=0.0001), cholesterol (p=0.001), and total triglycerides (p=0.006) levels, the increase of body weight of experiment group had not significant difference with control group (p=0.792). as well as body weights. The combined infusion of 491.4mg/200 g BW significantly reduced blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in rats by 37.09, 19.51, and 79.29%, respectively. Conclusion: The administration of the combines infusion with a dose of 491.4 mg/200 g BW for 7 consecutive days decreased blood glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in hyperglycemic rats.
