Isi artikelHigh stake tests provide washback to schools. Teachers and administrators can use it improve their instruction based on their strength and weaknesses. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Grade 6 EFL students’ performance in English on teacher-made tests and the O-NET in academic year 2014. Participants of the study were 33 graduated primary students from Anuban Nongki Primary School. The subjects’ scores from the O-NET and the scores of English subject were collected from the school. Statistical analyses used were Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (Pearson’s r), the Standard Deviation (SD), and the Arithmetic Mean (M). Results revealed that the correlation coefficient of scores from those two tests was high and it was statistically significant at the .01 level (r =.76, p < .01). The results of the study indicated that the students were measured based on their ability and the scores of teacher-made tests and the O-NET were correlated. As a result, the teacher-made tests possessed reliability and validity and the test results reflect the real proficiency. The future research topics should be related to development of reading ability, or vocabulary acquisition, or critical thinking since the proposed topics would help students to improve their English performance.
