Isi artikelIt investigates into thematic progression patterns and theme structured in English as source language and Indonesian as target language. The data is obtained from a novel using two different language (English version and Indonesian version), in one titled. They are analyzed based on the theory of Systemic Functional Linguitics. The data obtained analyzed using Halliday’s theory of clause as messages especially theme structure and Bloor’s theories of thematic progression patterns. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The result of this research reveals that there are differences between thematic progression in English text and Indonesian text. The result of this research revelas that there are two types of Thematic Progression found in the English text and also two types of thematic progression found in Indonesian text, the simple thematic progression and the multiple thematic progression. The simple thematic progression consist of split Rheme pattern and a zigzag or linear theme pattern. The multiple Thematic Progression consist of two combinations of patterns, A zigzag and constant theme pattern; three combinations of pattern, constant rheme pattern, split rheme pattern, split rheme pattern, and a zigzag.
