Isi artikelThis study aims to spot the features of the Palestinian President’s address to the UN General Assembly in New York from the perspective of discourse analysis. The researchers utilized the descriptive approach where they used the following discourse analysis tools: that are context analysis, stylistic analysis and rhetorical analysis tool. All of these tools were applied to the study sample; president Abbas’ address. The results of study have shown that the sentences, ideas and expressions of the President are coherent and cohesive since he used a wide variety of pronouns (attached pronouns, first, second and third person pronouns) and connectors. Using such rhetorical devices, he built a common ground or understanding between the sender and receiver (President Abbas and the UN General Assembly). In addition, he used attached, detached, speaker and, absent pronouns and the conjunctions to help build a joint ground of understanding between the speakers and addressees and make the addressees join among the progressive meanings with each other imposing a significant impact to the members of UN General Assembly in New York.
