Isi artikelThis study analyzed figurative meaning which found in verse in the book of Hebrew written by Paul and addressed to the people in Hebrew. The objectives of this analysisis to explore the real meaning of that figurative expression, and also to classify the types of figurative expression which one is the dominant in this book (Hebrew).In this study , the writer uses descriptive qualitative method. The writer analyzes the data based on semantics’ theory from semanticist like Gorys Keraft (2006). there are so many kinds of figurative expression, but the writer only analyzes metaphor, hyperbole, simile, metonymy, synecdoche, irony, and personification. The writer analyzes every data based on the steps of the analysis, and finally the writer concludes that the most dominant of the types of figurative expression which found in Hebrew is metaphor for 20 cases or 40%, hyperbole is 10 cases or 20%, simile is 5 cases or 10%, and the synecdoche 3 cases or 6%, and irony is 7 cases or 14%, and personification has a same cases with simile with 5 cases or 10%. The book of Hebrew using most of metaphor in verse is to make a stress to the things or people which was being compared, so that the reader will find the difference and the sameness between those comparisons.
