Isi artikelThe study is about the illocutionary acts and the speech acts classification of the graffiti on public transportations. There are five classifications of speech acts based on Yule’s theory (1996). They are. The writer analyzed the intended meaning of the illocutionary acts and five classifications of speech acts in fourty graffiti on public transportations by using descriptive qualitative method. The data was taken from the mini buses in Medan especially around Simpang Pos from September 2010 to October 2010. As the result of the analysis, the writer found that the owners of the buses express their feeling to the graffiti and write them behind and in the door of their mini buses, the intended meaning of the graffiti on public transportations mostly saying thank you to the Lord, hoping to the Lord and the graffiti mostly used representatives type. The writer suggests to the owners of the mini buses and the readers to pay attention and learn more about graffiti to improve their knowledge.
