Isi artikel
Second language acquisition show a growing sensitivity towards intonation competence, which is an element concidered crucial for the identification of a non native pronunciation and for massage understanding, much remains to be studied with reference to the Indonesian language. Intonation as we have defined it, is the esemble of pitch variations in the course of utterance. We will first briefly discuss how and under which conditions pitch is perceived. Next in order to answer the question how to accurately pitch can be perceived, we will select a number of experimental data to be found in the psychoacoustical literature. In this research we will deal with the perception of pitch in general of speech pitch in particular. We are especially interested in the limits of perceptibility of pitch phenomena in speech, in connection with the question of communicative relevance.
