Corpus linguistics has shown significant contributions for the development of linguistics research and lexicography in a number of countries. However, such development has not been widely experienced in the Indonesian language due to the lack of Indonesian corpus. This paper explains the sources of date to make the Indonesian corpus that contains a total of 1.2 billion running words, and how the corpus is used to make the Indonesian frequency dictionary. This paper also presents two examples of research topics that can be pursued by using the Indonesian frequency dictionary, they are, the use of letters and the use of hyphens. Knowing the results of the use of letters in the English language is not only useful in assisting the creation of a more appropriate Indonesian Scrabble game, but also useful in explaining the cultural aspects of Indonesian people, especially when they are compared with people from other countries. The higher reading habit of English people than that of Indonesian people can be related to the higher use of consonants in English than in Indonesian, as consonants contribute more than vowels in the lexical processing of words and reading process. The higher use of hyphens in the top 10,000 words in the Indonesian language than in the English language and the German language may indicate the more collectivist nature of the Indonesian people and the more individualist nature of the English and German people.
