Isi artikelTranslation typically has been used to transfer written or spoken SL texts to equivalent written or spoken TL texts. In general, the purpose of translation is to reproduce various kinds of texts, including religious, literary, scientific, and philosophical texts—in another language and thus making them available to wider readers. Methods in translation of a text are very important. This research discusses the translation methods applied at Udayana University web site (unud.ac.id). It aims at finding the translation methods used on the website, methods are most widely used, and the level of equivalence between the SL and TL texts. This research is a descriptive qualitative one which also supported by quantitative data. Quantitatively, the analysis of numbers from each method occurs in the website. Qualitatively, the analysis on how each data categorized based on the methods of translation and also analysis on the semantic equivalence between the SL and TL texts. In analyzing the data, some texts on the web written in Bahasa Indonesia were compared with those written in English. In collecting the data, observation techniques and note techniques were applied. This research uses theory of translation methods proposed by Newmark (1988) and meaning components proposed by Leech (1981).
