Being a gatekeeper is not easy. As clinicians, we gatekeep the degree and level of health care provided to patients. As educators, we gatekeep entry into the medical profession. As administrators, we gatekeep promotions, career advancement, and salary increases. As editors, we gatekeep the release and accuracy of information, the advancement of knowledge, and access to peer recognition.
