In this study the writer analyzes the use of figurative meaning in sport articles. The research using descriptive qualitative Menthod. The data is taken from Sports articles of Jakarta Post. There are seven type of figurative found in Sport article: they are Metaphor, Simile Synecdoch, Metonymy, Hyyperbole, Personification, Irony. The most dominant figurative meaning used in sports article is Mentonymy it is 51.90%, Hyperbole 18.95%, and the rest, Simile 12.95% Personification, 9.6%, and Irony , Metaphor, Synecdoche, are 2.35%. The sports news, specifically soccer, is reported the sports soccer emotionally to give impression of the team and the quality of the competition, to the reader. In a text article it is also reported. As it is reported the mevement of the player, as it is also joined by the commentator of the sport. The writer also try to report the play in an article. How the article reported as it is played, it should using figurative meaning.
