The research is done by using qualitative research. Writer discusses five types of language functions based on the theory proposed by Finocchiaro and Brumfit , such as persona functional. interpersonal fuction, directive function, referential function, and imaginative function. He data is taken from Jakarta Post, and this is a qualitative research. The data are 4 article of economics. There were five type of function of language found in economical news article. There were five types of function of language found in economical news article. In this study, the most dominant type of language function is Referential function. It means most of the content of the news is used mostly for sharing information. The writer also advice English Teacher to be able to teach the student using articles (economical, history, sports, medical, ect) so the student can be enriched with kinds of terms in their English vocabulary.
