Isi artikel
The main focus of this study is how the process of urbanization and modernization impact the youths’ behavior. Data for this study were collected from literature review, questionnaire and interview. The interviews were conducted on 47 low-income Malay families living in a 17- storey flat at Kampung Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur. This study found that urbanization and modernization process has brought changes to the low-income Malay families. Among the changes are an increase in the number of working women (wife/mother) and the lack of parental guidance for children. Obviously, these changes have critical impacts on youths in the city and they have contributed to the increase in youths’ misconducts which among others are smoking, illegal racing (mat rempit), lesbian and transgender as well as promiscuity.
