Isi artikelIn the Philippines, schools rarely name the philosophy/philosophes that determine/s their goals, curriculum, and pedagogy. Since educational practices in schools are traceable to certain philosophical bases, future decision of learners concerning the specialization they will pursue may likewise be based on the thrust of their learning at the basic education level. The study attempts to observe if there is significant difference among movements in education put in practice, and if found significant, to identify the dominant educational movements in the Philippines. The study also examines the association between the philosophy of teachers and the chosen specialization of the students. A purposive sampling of eighty-nine members has been done. Kruskal-Wallis test has been implemented to determine differences in perception of students on philosophy of teachers score between movements in education. Fisher’s exact test utilizing Monte Carlo Approximation has been employed to determine associations. Frequency of ordinal measures has been compared across all categories to identify the dominant movement in education as well as notable characteristics of the movements. Evidence shows that the movements in education are significantly different favoring Essentialism and Perennialism. It has been found that there is statistically significant association between the philosophy of teachers and student specialization preference. This study offers a different perspective in looking at the Philippine educational system and the effects of philosophies of the teachers to the future decision of the students.
