Isi artikel
There were 35.6 million people living with dementia worldwide in 2010, increasing to 65.7 million by 2030 and 115.4 million by 2050.1 The disease creates a tremendous emotional and economic burden on individuals, family, and society. Worldwide, the estimated costs of informal and formal care, combined, was $604 billion in 2010 (U.S. dollars).1 Older adults with dementia may commonly present for treatment of dementia and/or comorbid psychiatric symptoms of dementia in geriatric psychiatry settings; indeed, in some individuals psychiatric symptoms may be the early indicator of a dementing disorder.
